Suggestions for Using AutoSave II
Some programs will not do a Save command if nothing has changed in the file. MacDraw is an example of that kind of program. When this situation happens the Macintosh will either ignore the command AutoSave II gives or it will display a message stating that the file has not been changed.
If the Macintosh is in the middle of doing something (printing, searching, or updating the screen) or if you are in the middle of something (drawing a line, moving an elevator or searching a pulldown) and AutoSave II sends a command, the Macintosh will do the AutoSave function after it is finished with what it was doing or what you were doing.
AutoSave does not function with most Database programs. Database programs usually already have provisions for saving data automatically. FileMaker II is an example of this. However, Microsoft Works keeps its data in memory and to save the information you have to do a Save. AutoSave II would be useful with Works.
Q: What is the best time to set between saves.
A: The best time to use if you are using a lot of different applications is 10 minutes. However, if you are using a specific program there are better time intervals to use. Word processors save information very fast and a shorter interval can be used; between 3 and 7 minutes. Page layout and drawing programs take longer to save information and should use a longer time interval. Generally 10-15 minutes is best. If you are working with a program that crashes a lot, set AutoSave II for 1 minute. If you are not sure go by the rule, "It's better to be saved then sorry!"
Q: What if I don't want changes saved to an existing file?
A: Save the file using another name right after it has been loaded. This way the original is left intact and the copy can be modified as much as necessary.
Q: How much does AutoSave II sell for?
